Curtains depend on the window, the rail and the way you want the fabric to hang. Begin with those details instead of ordering from a window’s approximate width. A few careful measurements can prevent an otherwise attractive purchase from fitting awkwardly.

This guide focuses on selecting the right type and setup for your own routine. It is not a ranking of products or a claim that a particular brand has been tested.

Measure from the actual hanging point

Identify the rail or pole you will use and follow the retailer’s measuring instructions for the selected heading type. Decide where you want the hem to end. Measuring the glass alone leaves out the hardware and the surrounding wall area that influence the final coverage.

Compare the complete set

Check whether the listing describes one panel or a pair and whether the stated width refers to each panel. Read what hooks or fittings are included and which are required separately. If buying more than one set, confirm the same fabric and variant rather than relying on similar product names.

Choose fabric around the room

Think about privacy, the light you want and the material’s stated care needs. Read the maker’s description of any light-control claim, and do not infer it from a dark photograph. Consider nearby furniture or heating equipment and follow relevant placement instructions when planning the hanging arrangement.

Before you order

  • Measure from the rail or pole.
  • Confirm the number and size of panels.
  • Check heading type and required fittings.

Use the listing for the exact model, size or variant you intend to buy. If a necessary detail is missing, ask the retailer or manufacturer before paying. Check the final basket total and current delivery and return terms for that selection.

Making the choice

Choose the dimensions and attachment method before settling on a color. If measurements are uncertain or a custom order is involved, resolve them with the retailer before paying, since return conditions may differ.
